MSW Helper’s Mission and Values
-
We provide honest and responsible guidance. We do not promise admission outcomes or encourage applicants to present themselves in ways that are inaccurate or misleading.
-
Applying to graduate school can feel complex and overwhelming. We aim to make the process clearer, more manageable, and less isolating.
-
Applicants should remain in control of their own educational decisions and their own stories. We provide guidance and perspective while ensuring that each application continues to reflect the applicant’s voice, values, and goals.
-
Future social workers bring a wide range of academic, professional, volunteer, and lived experiences to the application process. We help applicants recognize the value of those experiences and communicate their strengths with greater confidence.
-
We believe strong future social workers come from many different backgrounds.
Our goal is to make high-quality application information and support more accessible, particularly for applicants who may be navigating a career change, a lower GPA, limited social-service experience, previous rejection, or uncertainty about where they fit within the profession.

How MSW Helper Got Started.
Hi, I’m Michelle Bruxer, the Founder and CEO of MSW Helper.
Applying to graduate school is an exciting – and often stressful – milestone.
When I began preparing my own MSW applications, I had always considered myself a strong writer. Even so, I found it difficult to know whether my personal statements were truly addressing what programs wanted to understand about me.
After being accepted to graduate school, I began helping other MSW applicants with their personal statements. What started as a small side project, often completed from my local library while I finished graduate school, quickly grew as more applicants began reaching out for support.
Over time, I realized that applicants did not simply need proofreading.
They needed help interpreting complex prompts, identifying the significance of their experiences, organizing their ideas, and developing a clear application strategy.
They also needed guidance created specifically for the social work admissions process.
Today, MSW Helper has grown into a leading educational platform for prospective social work students. Through our resource library, webinars, university partnerships, advising services, and personal statement support, we help applicants approach the admissions process with greater strategy and confidence.
What began as offering to help my peers from a library has grown into a team committed to supporting the next generation of social workers.
